An 8-hour Training with Stephen Andrew, LCSW, LADC, CCS

November 1 & 2, 2023

11:30am-4pm (each day)

PRESENTATION: This training provides learners with an introduction to Motivational interviewing and focuses on the spirit, techniques and key principles of holding a Motivational Interviewing conversation. This training is highly experiential, and learners will participate in exercises designed to illustrate the concepts described and will be given the opportunity to discuss their experience of those exercises. The goal of this training is for attendees to feel sufficiently familiar with MI to begin utilizing and embracing it in their day-to-day interactions with the clients served by their agencies.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing;
  • Describe techniques to convey empathetic understanding and compassion;
  • Explore ways of integrating Motivational Interviewing theories into other treatment approaches;
  • Practice Motivational Interviewing on “challenging” clients through role playing and discussion;
  • Adapt the treatment strategies to different populations; and
  • List direct approaches you can use within the context of creating an atmosphere of change.
