PRESENTATIONThis is training for clinicians and other service providers interested in improving their skills & increasing knowledge to assist methamphetamine & other stimulant users in the recovery process. Due to the severity and the (sometimes) extended time of withdrawal, substitution with alcohol and other drugs is common. Professional tools/techniques will be presented that may assist recovery outcomes. User friendly, client handouts identifying some of the principles of recovery and pitfalls associated with relapse, will be provided to assist clinicians in supporting client recovery.  Participants will be able to:

  • List effects of methamphetamine use & related recovery challenges;
  • Assist clients in recognizing relapse as a process rather than an event as well as identify relapse related replacement behaviors;
  • Apply at least one treatment tools specific to effective methamphetamine treatment; and
  • Recognize areas of hope for positive neurological changes leading to normalization of function following significant methamphetamine use.
