0.75 Hour Webinar Training with Ed Talbot and Angela Bergen, PhD

PRESENTATION: This webinar is an introduction to the issue of problem gambling. Information on how to identify and screen for problem gambling with clients will be discussed especially among individuals with a substance use disorder. As a result of this webinar, participants will be able to understand the issue of problem gambling. Identify the similarities and differences of problem gambling when present with a substance use disorder. Recognize the signs and symptoms that indicate problem gambling, as well as learn screening techniques used to identify a gambling problem.

As a result of this training participants will:

1. Understand what problem gambling is and its similarities and differences with a substance use disorder;
2. Recognize signs indicating problem gambling;
3. Describe screening techniques to identify a gambling problem; and
4. Examine the resources available for individuals struggling with problem gambling.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Ed Talbot has served as the Executive Director of the Council since its inception. Ed is a retired corrections administrator with expertise in all aspects of organizational leadership. For over four decades Ed has worked to bring the promise of recovery to men and women whose lives have been disrupted by addiction. His passion for the Council’s mission is derived from the gratitude he has for his own recovery from addiction and the blessings that a recovery-based lifestyle has bestowed. Angela Bergen, PhD is a dedicated mental health clinician and adjunct professor who brings her experience and passion into the Program Manager role to support the growing reach of the New Hampshire Council on Problem Gambling. Having clinically seen the tolls of problem gambling and co-occurring mental health struggles, Angela is strongly aligned with the Council’s mission of improving problem gambling education, prevention, screening, and access to treatment
