1 Hour Webinar Training with Ann Duckless, MA

PRESENTATIONFor years, research has shown that mental health-related conditions increase the risk of suicide. There is a strong correlation between substance use disorders and suicide risk. This workshop will look at critical components that should be part of suicide prevention efforts in working with substance abuse prevention/treatment providers and cultural adaptations in working within the field of substance abuse and addictions. This workshop will also address the increasing concern nationwide and in New Hampshire about prescription drug abuse and deaths, and how this epidemic impacts the public health issue of suicide.

Participants will learn:

  1. Prevalence rates of suicide attempts by people who misuse substances.
  2. Prevalence rates of suicide for specific drugs.
  3. Contributing bio-psycho-social factors that lead to substance misuse and suicide, including the role of cultural, racial, gender, and spiritual diversity.
  4. Cutting-edge prevention and intervention approaches to be used by mental health and substance abuse professionals.
PRESENTERAnn Duckless, MA has worked at NAMI NH in the Connect Suicide Prevention Program for the past eight years, offering trainings in suicide prevention and postvention to a variety of audiences, to include college campuses, military installations, tribal nations, and communities.
