PRESENTATION: This interactive, multimedia training will examine the practice of Polysubstance use. When working with this population it is helpful for service providers to realize the complex interactions of mixing drugs and the potential consequences associated with polysubstance misuse. This presentation will provide detailed information on the history, pharmacology, and current trends associated with common and emerging polysubstance use patterns. As a result of this training attending this training participants will:
- Gain understanding of the effects of polysubstance use.
- Learn about historical and current trends in polysubstance use.
- Gain insights into the motives and consequences of polysubstance use.
PRESENTER: Jack Genakos MLADC has been working in the field of Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders since 1979. He currently works as an Outpatient SUD Counselor at Southeastern New Hampshire Services in Dover, New Hampshire. Jack has worked with adults, adolescents, and their families in outpatient and inpatient settings including the Veteran’s Administration, Hampstead Hospital, Seaborne Hospital, Catholic Medical Center, and The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester. He served as a Student Assistance Counselor at Londonderry Middle School in Londonderry, New Hampshire for over ten years, and continues to provide Prevention Education presentations at public schools in New Hampshire. Jack has provided training, counseling and consultation services to Rockingham and Strafford County Houses of Correction, Southern New Hampshire University, New Hampshire Technical Institute, and the University of New Hampshire. He has also had extensive experience working with First Nations Residential School Survivors in New Brunswick, Canada. Jack holds a Master of Education degree in Leisure Studies and Therapeutic Recreation from Boston University, and is currently licensed as a Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in New Hampshire.
