SOR Scholarship Application
PRESENTATION: This 3-hour training will examine the unique needs and challenges of adolescents. Participants will explore current trends and best practice in prevention, intervention and treatment. Adolescents are at great risk for suicide, substance use, and mental health disorders. It is essential to identify and engage effective interventions. The presentation will include:
- Strategies for engagement
- Trends in treatment approaches (including online platforms)
- Symptom management/interventions
In addition, attendees will increase understanding of the culture of youth including values and perceptions of youth. Working with teens provides an opportunity to protect from mental health and substance use disorders later in life.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Heather McMahon LCMHC, MLADC offers individual, couples, and family counseling in her private practice. Her integrative strengths-based approach utilizes humor and compassion. She teaches as an adjunct professor at Granite State and Keene State Colleges. For over 30 years, she has worked with youth, families, and adults in a variety of settings including early childhood education, youth mentoring, as well as, a contracted provider to Department of Juvenile Justice and DCYF. Over the years, she has collaborated with schools/families/and other systems in presenting best practice interventions for adolescents. She has enjoyed working with local coalitions, overseas medical outreach, and, prevention/education related to violence and addiction.
