PRESENTATION: It is no secret that we are living in stressful times! For young adults ages 16-24 transitioning into adulthood can be challenging. This 3-hour training will provide an overview of evidenced based interventions for this age group including:
- Recognize Risk and Protective factors
- Awareness of Resources available
- Understanding developmental stage/needs
Attendees will explore ways to promote positive engagement with this population. Approaches to assess for and cultivate self-efficacy in young adults will also be presented. Participants will examine strategies that utilize a client-centered approach to influence behavior and reframe perception.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Heather McMahon LCMHC, MLADC offers individual, couples, and family counseling in her private practice. Her integrative strengths-based approach utilizes humor and compassion. She teaches as an adjunct professor at Granite State and Keene State Colleges. For over 30 years, she has worked with youth, families, and adults in a variety of settings including early childhood education, youth mentoring, as well as, a contracted provider to Department of Juvenile Justice and DCYF. Over the years, she has collaborated with schools/families/and other systems in presenting best practice interventions for adolescents. She has enjoyed working with local coalitions, overseas medical outreach, and, prevention/education related to violence and addiction.
