PRESENTATION: This training is designed for intermediate and advanced clinicians seeking to improve their understanding of eating disorders and the current models of treatment. During this training, participants will learn techniques for both diagnosing and treatment using theoretical models and real world skills. Special emphasis will be placed on the complicating factors that interfere with effective treatment and long lasting recovery. The similarities and differences between eating disorders and other mental health diagnoses will be addressed. As a result of this training, participants will:

  • Learn intermediate and advanced treatment methods and how to apply them.

  • Learn positive and negative aspects of individual, group, IOP and residential treatment.

  • Review proper treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues.

  • Describe their own experiences with eating disordered clients.

  • Explore the structure of therapeutic teams for supporting clients.

  • Practice the use of modeling proper eating for their clients.

  • Learn what not to do when working with eating disordered clients.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:  Joseph has 32 years of experience working with mental health and addiction issues. He specializes in helping people with Anxiety issues, Recovery from Addictions, and Eating Disorders. He is the Clinical Director of the ASIST program for Family Reentry in Bridgeport, and was the Director of the Renfrew Center of Southern Connecticut for five years specializing in treating clients with Eating Disorders. He is on the faculty of the New England Institute of Addiction Studies for 16 years teaching on neurobiology, recovery issues and ethics. With Clinical and Administrative skills and in his work as a professional educator he has unique qualifications to assist both clinicians and clients. Joseph is also in private practice in Fairfield County, CT.

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
