PRESENTATION: The goal of this workshop is to introduce ethics and the importance of understanding what ethics are and how they are applied in the role of a peer recovery support person/recovery coach. This workshop will introduce various existing codes of ethics for exploration of the different variations. Participants will learn various decision making models and review real case scenarios for active discussion. Participants will explore differences between personal and professional boundaries, as well as liabilities to the organization and liabilities to those they serve. Participants will walk away with an understanding of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and the role confidentiality plays in their work as a support person in the substance use disorder field. This course provides 12 CEs towards the Certified Recovery Support Worker (CRSW) credential and is an essential training for those serving as recovery coaches. As a result of this training participants will be able to: understand what ethics are and why they are important; understand what a code of ethics is and why it is important; learn different decision making models and how to apply them; affirm the roles of peer recovery support specialists (recovery coaches); Understand the differences between personal and professional boundaries; Gain an understanding of HIPAA and 42CFR (2) and how it applies to recovery coach role; learn about informed consents, releases of information and confidentiality; and gain an understanding of working in the human service filed, non-profit and the accountability.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Ginger is a person in long term recovery, a mother of two, a native of New Hampshire and the founder of the NH Recovery Coach Academy. She is a recent graduate of SNHU with a BA in Forensic Psychology and a credentialed CRSW since 2017. Ginger attended the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy Trainer of Trainers in 2015 and has facilitated and co-facilitated over 20 Recovery Coach Academies. She has attained trainer status in CCAR Ethics, Connect Suicide Prevention, Prevention Ethics and has designed an HIV/AIDS training for Recovery Support Workers: all of which are approved by the NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol &Other Drug Use Professionals. Ginger has been awarded Core Trainer Status for the nationally recognized recovery training models from Community of Addiction Training (CART & CCAR). Ginger is an approved trainer in Massachusetts by Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS). She has been a member of the Governor's Commission Recovery Task Force since November 2015 and actively participates in advocacy efforts statewide for recovery from substance misuse.
